I actually didn't fly all that much myself in my life and it's been quite a while since then, so I originally had Aki pulling out her passport already as an honest mistake - until I remembered, "wait, I did show it then as well already, they even put a little sticker on it". So I changed it to A/S not knowing either (I guess at least for Shinji, it'd still make sense that he didn't do any international flights, and the only time we see Asuka travel, it was by boat as well, so... :P), and Aki able to upstage them a little. ;)
